Miriam Weissenstein ist eine lebende Legende der Geschichte des Landes Israel. Die unersetzlichen Negative der Fotos der Unabhängigkeitserklärung liegen bei ihr zu Hause. Ihr Mann Rudi Weissenstein ist damals der einzige Fotograf, der die Zeremonie fotografieren darf. Zusammen mit ihm dokumentiert sie die Geschichte und die Persönlichkeiten des jungen Staates über Jahrzehnte. Wer im Schaufenster ihres Ladens in der Allenbystraße in Tel Aviv als großes Porträt hängt, der wird gewählt – so sagt man.
Miriam Weissenstein ist nicht etwa weise oder milde geworden im Alter, nein sie ist rastlos, kämpferisch und streitsüchtig wie eh und jeh. Gemeinsam mit ihrem Enkel Ben erhält sie das unendliche Bilderarchiv des Landes – schlägt jedes Kaufangebot ab und organisiert Ausstellungen in aller Welt. Die modernen Vermarktungsideen ihres Enkels findet sie ebenso seltsam wie sein unkonventionelles Leben. Mit beidem arrangiert sie sich trotzdem und streitet mit ihm lieber über wichtigere Dinge. Tamar Tals preisgekrönter Film begleitet die beiden großherzigen und originellen Menschen mit viel Humor durch Höhen und Tiefen, durch private Tragödien ebenso wie bei persönlichen Höhepunkten, wie der Reise zu ihrer großen Fotoausstellung nach Frankfurt. Nach dem Film hat man den Eindruck, zwei Freunde in Tel Aviv zu haben, mit denen man gelacht und geweint hat, so sehr und so herzlich lässt einen der Film Anteil haben an ihrem bewegten Leben.

Miriam Weissenstein is a living legend in the history of Israel. The irreplaceable negatives from the photographs of the declaration of independence are kept in her draws at home. At this time her husband Rudi Weissenstein is the only photographer who is given permission to photograph the ceremony. Together the young couple captures the history and the personality of the young nation over the years. They say if your portrait hangs in the window of their photo shop in the Allenby street of Tel Aviv you will be elected. Miriam Weissenstein has not softened with age, instead she is tireless, antagonistic and as opinionated as ever. Together with her grandson Ben she looks after the endless photography archive of the country – they refuse all suggestions to sell and organise exhibitions throughout the world. Miriam does not always agree with the modern business ideas of her grandson, or his unconventional lifestyle. However she is able to accept these in order to fight over the more important things in life. Tamar Tal's prize-winning film follows these two warm-hearted and original figures with the right amount of humour through the ups and downs of their lives, their private tragedies and personal successes, such as their journey to Frankfurt for a special exhibition of their photographs. After getting to know Miriam and Ben while watching this sensitive and intimate portrait you have the feeling, that you have two new friends, with whom you laughed and cried and want to visit as soon as you reach Tel Aviv.

מרים ורודי ויסנשטיין הם אגדות בעולם הצילום הישראלי. רודי המנוח היה היחידי שקיבל אישור לצלם את אירוע הכרזת המדינה - והנגטיבים שמורים עד היום במגירה ליד המיטה של מרים. יחד, בתור זוג צעיר, הם תיעדו את הרגעים המכוננים בתולדות מדינת ישראל והציגו את התמונות בחנות שלהם – "הצלמניה" ברחוב אלנבי.
מרים לא התרככה עם השנים, ההיפך הוא הנכון. "אשת הברזל" חסרת הפשרות והדעתנית שומרת, יחד עם נכדה בן, על הארכיון האינסופי של התמונות. היא לא תמיד מסכימה עם שיטות העסקים החדשניות או אורח החיים האלטרנטיבי של נכדה, אך מוכנה להתגמש בסופו של דבר לטובת הלחימה המשותפת על הדברים החשובים יותר בחיים.
